  • Measuring spoons
  • Grater
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric powder or 1 tablespoon grated fresh turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 cups water

Per Serving Additions

  • 1/2 lemon juiced

  • cardamom to taste
  • cloves to taste

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine ground turmeric (or grated fresh turmeric), grated ginger, ground black pepper, and water.
  • Gently bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat, cover, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly, keeping it covered.
  • Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a teapot or directly into serving cups.
  • For each 1-cup serving, add the juice of half a lemon and 1/2 teaspoon of honey, adjusting to taste.
  • Enjoy the tea hot, or let it cool and serve over ice for a refreshing cold beverage.
  • Store any extra tea in a covered glass jar in the refrigerator.

Notes

For a chai-like flavor, consider adding spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, or cloves while simmering. To prepare a soothing turmeric milk, substitute all or part of the water with milk or a milk alternative, and omit the lemon juice.
